MARK ORPEN-LYALL
IS OUR FOUNDER:
He was awarded a PhD in Organisational Psychology for his research focusing on developing an individual’s resilience capabilities. Since 2000, Mark has been a registered Industrial and Organisational Psychologist with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Mark worked as an HR/OD practitioner at Harrods, Allan Gray, Old Mutual and Unilever over the last 20 years. In his last corporate role at Allan Gray, he set-up the HR function and then headed up the Organisation Development department for 11.5 years.
I believe that trust is a consultant’s most important currency and needs to be earned. Trust is underpinned by credibility, reliability, transparency, and low self-orientation. I endeavour to be trustworthy by:
Credibility:
PhD in Organisational Psychology and maintaining my Psychologists accreditation by fulfilling my CPD requirements over the last 20 years. I am on the Faculty of Henley Business School (rated in the top 20 worldwide by Financial Times). I have worked inside blue-chip organisations: Allan Gray, Unilever, and Harrods. My current client base as an external consultant is also testament to this aspect.
Reliability:
This is best gauged by people who have worked with me over an extended period, and what they have to say.

Transparency:
My Purpose in life is: “Be Lite” I want to elevate people’s capabilities by focussing the light of science-based psychology on their challenges. The principles by which I live my life are: to lead by example; pain of discipline is preferable to the pain of regret; always stay curious.
The lasting value contribution I would like to make to:
FAMILY: Light the fire . . . love of health, knowledge, and proactive attitude.
FRIENDS: De-light . . . sow memories by having fun.
WORK/CLIENTS: Shine light . . . on people’s unique strengths.
SOCIETY: Create light . . . through research insights.
Low self-orientation:
I believe in business both the client and the consultant must benefit from the relationship. In 2 consulting situations I have not charged consulting fees, because I felt I had not met the standards I expect of myself. A standing rule I have is that if I do not deliver a minimum 90% satisfaction rating, I reimburse my clients. In these two instances I scored in the 80s. I am happy to supply these clients contact details for verification.
